The authors analyze the problem of transformation of consumerism in modern society, starting with traditional and ending with the digital forms of its manifestation. They consider classic philosophical interpretations of the phenomena of consumption and the desire for possession, which form the ideological basis of consumerism. The effect of such global processes as industrialization, IT penetration, and digitalization on the consumerization of society is evaluated. It is hypothesized that the evolution of consumerism is a sequence of successive forms of it, including global, informational and digital consumerism. The characterization of the nature and essence, as well as the reasons for the transformation of various varieties of consumerism, has been given.
