In this work, the significant development of commodity science as a relatively new direction of economic science is noted. The interdisciplinary nature of commodity knowledge is emphasized. The theoretical and applied aspects of the problem of compatibility of non-food products, which is one of the most relevant for modern commodity science, are identified and described. The definition of compatibility as a product property has been given. Various types of product compatibility are described (using a dichotomous approach). The classification of types of compatibility of goods is proposed. The practical significance of the description of various types of compatibility for the creation and digitalization of new registers of consumer goods is noted.
